Solar Turbines is a world leading producer of mid-range of industrial gas turbines for use in power generation, natural gas compression, and pumping systems. It provides full product support, equipment supply, financing, plus installation and operation and maintenance capability. In 1981, Caterpillar purchased the Company, and today, Solar Turbines Incorporated is a wholly owned subsidiary.

Products include six gas turbine product families, Saturn®, Centaur ®, Mercury ®, Taurus™, Mars®, Titan™, and eight centrifugal gas compressor product families including both pipeline and multi-stage compressors. Gas Turbine Products range from 1-15 MW (1500-19,500hp). Solar also manufactures Turbotronic™ microprocessor-based control systems utilizing PLC technology. Services offered by the Company cover gas turbine and gas compressor overhaul, parts replacement, field service, package refurbishment, and asset management.

Solar sells, manufactures, and services its products in more than 90 countries from over 30 worldwide locations. Business is conducted through these offices with sales and service employees plus sales representatives and selected distributors. Although 80% of Solar's employees and 85% of the physical assets are located in the U.S., Solar exports more than 70% of its products. Solar is one of the 50 largest exporters in the United States.

Emissions

Solar Turbines introduced SoLoNOx™ in 1993 as a low emissions option for the company's gas turbines rated at 3.5 MW and above. SoLoNOx gas turbines use lean-premixed combustion technology to ensure uniform air/fuel mixture and to prevent formation of regulated pollutants. Our customers have chosen to employ SoLoNOx equipped turbines in over 1,400 installations worldwide for a number of reasons:

Unrivaled Experience
We have more than 13,838,000 operating hours with SoLoNOx technology and have saved an estimated 168,138 tons of NOx emissions since 1993.

Fuel Options
Both natural gas and dual fuel (diesel #2/distillate or natural gas) options are available.

Low Emissions
SoLoNOx gas turbines are designed to meet most exhaust emission regulations throughout the world during operation at 50-100% engine load across all ambient temperatures above -18C (0F).

Cost Effectiveness
Dry, lean-premixed combustion technology means SoLoNOx gas turbines generally do not require post-combustion clean-up devices to meet emissions requirements.

High Performance
SoLoNOx equipped turbines provide the same power and heat rate as equivalent engine models with conventional combustion technology.

Solar's Environmental Programs group is ready to provide guidance to our customers on their permitting needs. Our dedicated staff keeps abreast of both domestic and international laws and regulations for both new and existing equipment. We can provide guidance on construction and/or operating permits and such issues as New Source Review (PSD and non-attainment area permitting) and BACT/LAER determinations.
